Is childbirth a medical event? Barbara Decker, Certified Prenatal Bonding Facilitator and Childbirth Educator, answers this question. She also shares her almost 50 years experience in prenatal and perinatal education. She stresses the importance of relaxation in experiencing a calmer, more comfortable, instinctive birth.
Barbara started out as a Childbirth Educator shortly after her second son was born. She had read the book about the Lamaze approach to birthing before her first baby, but had been dissuaded from using this method. As she describes it, she did everything wrong. She tensed with every contraction. After a much more successful experience the second time, she knew she had to share what she had learned with others.
She continued her studies by becoming a Certified Doula. Later she learned how hypnosis can be used in birthing and became a hypnotherapist. She now trains expectant mothers to enter a state of deep relaxation during labor and allow their bodies to follow nature’s master plan for birth.
Barb is truly a lifelong learner. She continued her studies in prenatal care and is a member of the Association of Pre and Perinatal Psychology and Health (APPAH). She was also involved in the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study and learned that past trauma can healed at any age. She is passionate about what she does and assured me that even at 75 she is not done yet.
