What do you think of when you hear the word birth? For many it is a joyous occasion, the beginning of a new life, a new addition to a family. For some the first word that comes to mind is pain. This is a result of decades of societal expectations. It is unnecessary. The philosophy of hypnobirthing is that childbirth is not a medical event. A woman’s body is designed to give birth and a healthy mother having a healthy baby does not need medical interventions.
In this episode I talk about my experiences with childbirth and learning about hypnobirthing, a process that allows a woman to have a calm, comfortable birth, which is safer for her and safer for her baby.
HypnoBirthing is about preparing for a gentle, calm birth experience. This is about more than just getting the baby out. This is a philosophy for making birth a sacred space to allow parents to give their baby a gentle introduction to life outside the womb. Parents need time before and after birth to bond with their infant. Siblings need an opportunity to welcome the new family member. Lights are dimmed, voices are hushed, and medical intrusions are kept to a minimum to allow for a gentle birth.
