How do you deal with an overwhelming family challenge?  One solution is to design a board game.  Peter Pritchett talks about the game his family designed.  It was his mother’s response to a crisis her family was facing that was impacting the individual members and tearing the family unit apart.  The idea for the game was sparked by some “interesting” experiences caused by some of their house guests.  This process of working together to design the game helped the individual members to heal and strengthened the family as a unit.  As they say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

The Pritchetts made something much more useful than a refreshing drink.  They created a team building activity benefiting work teams as well as families.  The game, “House Guests from Hell,” requires effective communication skills and collaboration to win.  It is challenging, engaging and hilarious.

The cards in the game refer to various challenges with your house guests and possible solutions which must be discussed and voted on before they can be used.

Peter also talks about how his family served as caregivers for two twin uncles with special needs for over 10 years.  You can hear the love in Peter’s voice as he talks about these family members who lived with them for the last part of their lives.
