Whether you are the head of a major corporation, a small business, a classroom or a family, you want to get the highest level of participation from your team. Dr. Timothy Clark explains how understanding and protecting psychological safety can bring this success to leaders of any organization. He states that the role of a leader is to create a culture of intellectual bravery.  He talks about his upcoming book and explains the four stages of psychological safety.

First is Inclusion Safety.  When we feel accepted in a new environment, we are free to participate and move onto the next stage.

When we experience Learner Safety we feel comfortable asking questions and participating, knowing we won’t be ridiculed.

Contributor Safety means we know we can contribute to the group, whether as a 3 year old helping with chores around the house or a new employee.

The highest level of psychological safety, and the one necessary for any organization to grow, is Challenger Safety.
